The Western Algarve
The Western Algarve is less busy than the resorts further east and is renowned for its stunning walks, hidden away sandy coves and rugged scenery. A short trip up the west coast unearths mile after mile of deserted beaches which on a windy day is a real experience with the mighty Atlantic roaring in just yards from your feet. The whole stretch of coastline from Sagres to Lisbon is a surfers paradise and yet even in the height of August you will find a beach with a small bar with no more than a handful a people around you. There is an abundance of wild life throughout this part of Portugal and the birds and wild flowers especially in the spring are an absolute delight.
